The mission of the Delaware Fire Marshal is to provide the citizens of this State and all who visit a Fire Safe Environment be it in the home, the workplace or wherever they pursue their varied lifestyles or interests.

- Salary: $51,600 upon completing the academy.

- Overtime Opportunities: Additional earnings through overtime work.
- Shift Schedule: Rotating Shifts 8:00am-4:00pm or 3:00pm-11:00pm. On-call Nights, Weekends, Holidays Required.

- FOP Membership: Officers are part of the FOP collective bargaining plans.
Requirements for Applicants
Essential Qualifications for Delaware State Fire Marshal Candidates
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Age: At least 20 and 1/2 years of age.
- Education: Possession of an Associates degree or higher in Fire Protection Technology, Fire Investigation, Criminal Justice or related field.
- Driver’s License: Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or canceled, or disqualified from driving).
OR
- Age: At least 20 and 1/2 years of age.
- Education: Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Knowledge of conducting investigations which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence and documenting findings.
- Experience: Knowledge of interpreting national and local building and fire codes.
- Experience: Knowledge of reviewing and approving site plans, building plans, fire protection system plans and mechanical plans.
- Experience: Knowledge of narrative report writing.
Driver’s License:Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or canceled, or disqualified from driving).
